Europe Breaking: the terrible confessions of the father of Sarah, 11, found dead in the Rhône

A body was discovered this Thursday at the end of the morning in Avignon. This is Sarah, 11, who disappeared last weekend. His father, taken into police custody on Wednesday, confessed to having committed the murder.

It was on Piot Island, in Avignon, that the corpse was discovered late Thursday morning. He was taken out of the water by the divers from the firefighters, in the presence of investigators from the Avignon judicial police. According to our colleagues from Provence, it is indeed the girl who disappeared on Saturday with her father. 

The latter was arrested Wednesday evening at the Leclerc des Angles shopping centre, in the Gard. He was alone, while his daughter was still wanted and a disturbing disappearance investigation had been opened for them both. 

Placed in custody for intentional homicide, he first mentioned the thesis of the accident, before finally confessing to having killed his daughter. It is not known for the moment what were his motivations for committing such an act, nor under what circumstances the tragedy took place.

Came to France to reconnect with his daughter

The police had launched numerous calls for witnesses to try to find them, with supporting reports. It is a witness who recognized the person concerned. His phone had lasted off somewhere between Gard and Vaucluse.

He is a 38-year-old man from Spain who speaks French very poorly and is in financial difficulty. He had arrived in the region at the beginning of July to see his daughter.

 He was staying at the hotel in Rochefort-du-Gard and had tried to reconnect with his former partner, Sarah's mother, from whom he had been separated for a year and a half after being convicted of domestic violence. He had also asked to see Sarah again. The mother of this one agreed to confide in him Saturday, without imagining this terrible outcome.

The young victim and his father were last seen taking the bus in Avignon on Saturday morning. It was Sarah's mother who alerted the police, after receiving disturbing messages from her former companion. The police quickly oriented their research towards the banks of the Rhône.

An autopsy should take place Friday at the Forensic Institute in Nîmes, it will allow us to learn more about the circumstances of Sarah's death.
